Punjab boasts one of the world’s most colourful cultures. The residents of this state are known for their friendly and welcoming character, and they sincerely believe in living life to the fullest. That’s presumably why the state exudes such grandeur and majesty.

In addition to this, Punjabis are one of the most populous ethnic groups in the Indian diaspora. The Punjabi population is estimated to number between 30 million people all over the country, with the majority living in Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Firozpur,Mohali, etc.

When family members live so far away, news about their loved one passing away could leave one devasted and perplexed. Many questions roam around our heads during such a difficult time. The most important of them, is how to bring the dead body back to its home state for last rites?

Nowadays, as societies are becoming mobile, dead arrangments frequently cross state lines. Even though cremated ashes are significantly less expensive to ship than bodies, cremation is not an option for many families. When two funeral homes are likely to be involved, what are the best strategies to save costs on body transport after death?

Transporting a Dead Body Domestically in India

Transporting a deceased person domestically through Indian cities can be a troublesome task. Most people do not have the right information and contacts required to complete the task at hand. That is why, whether you’re looking for transporting a dead body from Bangalore to Chandigarh, or Mumbai to Jalandhar, this blog will be the right guide.

In some cases, it can be necessary to transport the corpse by air from one city to another. So if you’re looking to cover a distance within cities, for example, dead body transportation from Mumbai to Amritsar, a mortuary van or ambulance with a freezer box can be the most convenient mode of conveyance.

However, one must always be prepared to fully understand the process. There are rules governing the transfer of a dead body by road. Transporting a body by mortuary ambulance is easier and requires no documentation other than a doctor’s or hospital’s death certificate. However, when transferring a dead body or human remains across a great distance or to another country is not possible, you must consider flying the body or human remains. We want to make sure that you’re well-versed in these protocols to successfully transfer your loved ones in time and at the best possible cost.

Step 1: Arrange all the necessary documents

1.  Death certificate and hospital clearance

  1. First and foremost, contact the doctor assigned to issue a death certificate or hospital clearance mentioning the reason for death. If the death was due to COVID, make sure the death certificate or clearance form mentions that.
  2. To avoid any further difficulties with air cargo, be sure that the certificate and other documents are written in English rather than the state’s local language.
  3. If the person has died due to unnatural circumstances, documents such as the post-mortem report or the police FIR must be required.

2. NOC from the local police station

To transfer the deceased in a cargo flight, one must visit the local police station and request a No-Objection Certificate (NOC).

Before handing out the NOC, the officials may inquire about the deceased and the circumstances behind their death. Make sure to answer everything calmly.

3. Embalming Certificate

  1. Embalming is the removal of body fluids and replacing them with particular chemicals. This process helps prevent and slow down the decomposition of the human body. Whether you’re travelling internationally, or domestically with a dead body you must embalm the body.
  2. For the procedure, you can contact any government or private hospital. Once done, they will hand you a signed and sealed certificate.

4. Coffin Box Services & Certificate

The next step is to choose a professional undertaker who can help you arrange coffin boxes on time. Your loved ones are going to be placed in these boxes and sealed for a smooth and safe journey on the plane.

The same undertaker will help you provide the coffin box service for freight clearance after the final examination.

5. Identification Card and Photographs

In the end, you must take an ID card proof. This could be the deceased’s Aadhar Card, Driver’s Licence, or any similar document to acquire clearance.

Step 2: Book Air Cargo Service and Tickets Online

Once you’re done collecting all the necessary documents, you can go ahead and book cargo services and tickets. There are just a few air services that accept and transfer human remains or deceased bodies.

As a result, it’s important to look for such services and then inquire about all the information over the phone. The air cargo department provides information about the next flight’s availability and schedule.

  1. If possible, book, book human remains air cargo services online. In many situations, you will need to go to the location and make a reservation.
  2. If you require transit with a companion, you must purchase a ticket for the same.
  3. If you want to travel without a companion, you must submit the receiver’s information.

Step 3: Make arrangements for funeral services.

  1. You will need to keep your loved ones in a mortuary facility before transporting them to the airport. It will aid in the preservation of your departed loved one’s body.
  2. You have the option of booking a private or government mortuary. If you’re confused about who to reach out to, contact the Last Journey services at +91 7827777889 and we’ll arrange mortuary within a couple of hours.
