Everyday things you did not know are slowly killing you

Reading Time: 3 minutes

We all know that it is our small actions and decisions that determine our long-term fate. The same is believed in terms of our health and lifestyle. But what is astonishing is the fact that many times we aren’t even aware of the things that might harm or even kill us in the future. These things have become such a regular aspect in our lives that it feels like a shock that they are the most life-threatening things around us.

The Last Journey presents for you a list of everyday things you did not know are slowly killing you.

      1. Salt

Indians consume higher salt per meal than the rest of the world. What we don’t usually know is that our intake of salt is directly related to our blood pressure. So, the more salt you eat, the higher the blood pressure, and more strain on your heart, arteries, kidneys, and brain.

       2. Mobile Phones

There are many ways in which your smartphones might harm you. Cellphones emit radiofrequency energy, which is a form of non-ionizing radiation that can cause health problems. On the other hand, long usage of mobile phones can also harm eyesight and cause health issues such as cervical.

      3. Vitamins/Supplements

Getting our nutrients straight from a pill sounds easy. But is it the right way?

The right way for nutrients to enter us is through our regular diet. Even when suggested by doctors, mindless indulging into supplements can cause side effects. They can prove to be very dangerous, especially when taken in larger than recommended amounts.

       4. Sitting

However much we try to avoid, our lifestyle has become very sedentary. Be it working in the office for long hours or studying, we sit for prolonged hours without even realizing its harmful effects on our health. Recent studies have shown that this can increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and death. Even if you exercise regularly, it is still suggested not to sit for long stretches.

      5. Inadequate Sleeping

Sleeping is essential for healthy living. But too much or too little sleeping has effects that can severely harm your health.

Regularly oversleeping has been associated with medical problems such as diabetes and heart disease. On the other hand, sleeping little can affect your lifestyle and also leads to obesity.

        6. Wrong Posture

A bad body posture is a reason for a lot of health problems.

Slouchy shoulders, bent back can cause problems such as poor circulation, impaired lung function, constricted nerves, misaligned spine, and much more.

Work on correcting your body posture, and align your sitting and standing habits for healthier living.

       7. Hectic work

That’s right! Work-life has become so hectic and has started mentally and physically affecting people. Heart disease, diabetes, and depression are among the ailments faced by full-time workers. For many white-collared professionals, a workday is filled with never-ending meetings, emails, phone calls, and other interruptions that don’t end even outside the office.

To avoid this, you should always take out time for self-care.
