What is involved in Dead Body Transportation from Japan to India?

We take great pride in our structured approach and meticulous attention to detail in facilitating the legal relocation of deceased individuals. Our comprehensive services include:

  • Notifying the relevant authorities (embassy or consulate general) of Japan and India.
  • Guiding the family through the necessary documentation process.
  • Ensuring the safe handling of human remains through medical facilities such as embalming.
  • Coordinating local transportation arrangements for the body.
  • Securing advance bookings for air cargo slots and flight tickets.
  • Arranging for the doorstep delivery of the deceased to their home in India.
  • Keeping family members informed throughout the entire process via a seamless online platform.

A Stepwise Guide:

1. Informing the Embassy -

Initiating the process involves notifying authorities in both countries about the passing of an Indian citizen in Japan. Upon receiving approval from the relevant local and higher authorities in Japan, our team proceeds to collect the deceased from either the hospital or the location of the death.

2. Shifting the body to mortuary -

At first, the deceased body is inspected by the senior doctors in a certified medical facility in Japan. Once it is verified that there is no case of sudden or unnatural death, the body is then shifted to the mortuary for safe residence up until the documentation is complete.

3. Completing the Legal Paperwork -

Collecting valid papers from the concerned authorities of Japan is the most crucial task in the legal transportation of the dead body internationally. The process is long, but with our trained, experienced and professional team members, Last Journey makes sure that the overall process is effortless.

Please find a list of documents required for lawfully receiving the remains of a deceased:

  • Original and duplicate death certificates.
  • Passport and personal documents of the deceased.
  • Travel permit from Japanese airport authority.
  • Embalming certificate signed by certified doctors.
  • Health department letter confirming non-contagious status.
  • Certificate for sealed coffin box.
  • Flight and air cargo ticket details.
  • No objection certificate (NOC).
  • Local police permit.
  • Post-mortem report for unnatural deaths.
  • Proof of the deceased's residence in Japan.
  • IDs of the accompanying family members who are participating in the Dead body transportation,if any..

All these documents must be available in original and copy.

We arrange 8-10 copies of each essential document and the copies of each document are submitted to the different departments related to the Repatriation procedure.

 4. Embalming Services -

To start, we first get consent from the family for embalming. After we have this approval, our team takes the deceased to a certified embalming center in Japan with help from a local funeral service team and a special ambulance van. The remains are kept cool during transport, usually in a freezing box or a cooling cabinet.
At the embalming facility, the procedure involves extracting bodily fluids, administering a preservation solution of chemicals and water for prolonged protection, and applying natron to prevent decomposition. Following these steps, the embalmed remains are then securely placed and sealed within a coffin box.

5. Online Bookings -

Once all documentation is finalized, we proceed to book two-way air cargo services and secure flight tickets. The timing of air travel for both the deceased and accompanying family members is coordinated based on their convenience and availability.

Additional Details:

  1. Last Journey takes responsibility for transporting the deceased to the airport using ambulance services, notifying airport authorities, and arranging for the shipment of human remains.
  2. If no family member accompanies the cargo, our team members ensure its safe journey to the destination.
